Onion Herb Seasoning Blend

Bookmark and Share Cheesy Grits with Scallions Recipe

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups 2 % milk
  • 1 cup regular grits
  • 1/2 cup low fat cheddar cheese, sharp
  • 2 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 small onion, minced
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped fine
  • 4 scallions, trimmed, thinly sliced, white and green
  • 1 Tbsp. Mrs. Dash® Onion and Herb Blend
Directions:
  1. Bring the water and milk to a slow simmer in a one-quart saucepot. Slowly add the grits and stir. Turn the heat to low and cover, checking every five minutes and stirring each time until the grits have a consistency of oatmeal.
  2. When they are done, add the cheese and stir. Partially cover.
  3. While the grits are cooking, add the olive oil to a medium size warm sauté pan. Add the garlic and onions and sauté slowly until they are clear but not brown.
  4. Next add the scallions and toss with onion mix and Mrs. Dash Onion and Herb Blend. Cook gently.
  5. Plate the grits to bowls. Top with the onion mix.
