Red Beans & Smoked Turkey

Smoky turkey gets a flavor kick with Dash™ Extra Spicy Seasoning Blend. A hearty side dish for a chilly winter evening.

Ingredients

  • 1 c. chopped onion
  • 1 tbsp. Extra Spicy Seasoning Blend
  • 1 qt. smoked turkey wings or drumsticks
  • 3 c. rice
  • 1 lb. dried red beans
  • 1 qt. cold water
  • ½ c. chopped celery

Directions

  1. Sort and wash beans.
  2. Place beans in 4-quart Dutch oven; cover with water 2 inches above beans.
  3. Soak for 30 minutes or overnight.
  4. Drain.
  5. Add celery, onion, Extra Spicy Seasoning Blend, turkey and water to the Dutch oven.
  6. Bring mixture to a boil.
  7. Reduce heat; cover and cook over low heat 2 to 3 hours or until beans and turkey are tender.
  8. Remove turkey; cut meat from bone; mix meat into beans.
  9. Cook rice. Toss rice with 1 tablespoon Extra Spicy Seasoning Blend if extra spice is desired.
